Hey y'all!
My name is Lillian, but most people just call me Lillie. I live in south Texas and I love ballet. Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of dancing on a stage in a tutu. I would watch a VHS tape of the NYC ballet's Nutcracker over and over again. When I was four or five my mom put be in a baton twirling class and told me that it was like ballet, but with a stick. Even though I grew to love baton twirling, (and went on to compete competitively at a national level) I never lost interest in ballet.
I took a few non-consecutive years of ballet as a preteen, but never had consistent training. Once I began college, and was making a steady income, I looked into taking adult recreational ballet classes. After being back in a ballet class, I knew I was hooked and all of my childhood dreams reawakened. I started taking more and more classes with the hopes of someday being strong enough for pointe shoes.
When my ballet instructor told me that I should go to the ballet store to buy pointe shoes I couldn't help but start to cry. I had never experienced happy tears before. Before even starting my car I called my mom and my best friend Melissa (coincidentally our friendship blossomed through our mutual love of ballet). Later that day, Melissa and I went to buy my first pair of pointe shoes.
A couple years later, I am still striving towards my goal. There have been bumps on the road, but that is what makes the journey interesting.
Happy Dancing,
Lillian
